About
The Proper Set sells board games that are made to be played on.
The reason the shop exists is narrow. There is a wide gap in this category between sets that cost thirty dollars and fall apart, and sets that cost five hundred and are bought mostly for the shelf. In between, very little is sold with its actual measurements listed.
What we do differently
- We publish the measurements. Board dimensions, king height where the maker documents it, and the weight of the full set. In inches.
- We name the materials the way the maker names them. If a board is MDF with a wood veneer, the page says so.
- We do not redesign traditional faces to be fashionable. The people who play these games already know how to read them, and they should not have to learn a new set of symbols because a set was styled.
Where the games come from
Our sets are made by specialist workshops, most of them in Asia, several of which have been producing game sets for over a decade. We do not claim they are made anywhere they are not.
